Bill Chiu is a Senior Manager with Southern California Edison (SCE). Currently, Bill oversees the Engineering group for Transmission and Distribution Business Unit (TDBU) that is responsible for capital expansion, infrastructure replacement, and operational support of all substations within SCE service territory. Most recently Bill served the role of senior manager that oversees high level cross-functional policy directions that bridged strategic gaps that are critical to the execution of SCE’s major infrastructure investment plan.
Bill joined SCE in 1998 in the transmission and substation engineering group and has since served a variety of management roles that included business strategies, regulatory proceedings, technical disciplines, sourcing, and operations.
Prior to joining SCE, Bill worked at Austin Energy, LADWP, and Bechtel Power Corporation spanning across a variety of engineering and management roles from customer service, system planning, quality assurance for bulk power equipment procurement contracts, and standards development.
Bill has a BSEE from Cal Poly Pomona, and MSEE from USC. He also has a MBA from USE.
Bill is a registered professional engineer in the state of California and Texas. He is also an executive officer of IEEE Power & Energy Society’s Transformers Committee.
In his spare time, Bill volunteers at the local Chinese school and as a soccer coach/referee at AYSO. He enjoys gardening and DIY home improvements. He also likes to travel and see the world.
When asked about his proudest achievements, Bill shared the satisfaction of watching his children grow and learning from their experiences.
Bill enjoys mentoring because of the personal satisfaction from helping people to learn and grow in their career development through the AAPA and other professional networks.
